Love Story

Grant and I met at the New Year's Eve stake dance in 2008. I was 15 years old and Grant was 16. I had actually known who he was way before he knew who I was. The first time I saw Grant Boyd was at a student council convention. He caught my eye right away. I thought he was the cutest blonde haired boy ever. Then, a few months later, I saw him again at EFY! Not even kidding, but all the girls thought he was sooooo cute. I was just one of those many girls who had a crush on Grant Boyd. A few of my friends and I tried out for the variety show-and we made it! We called 3 cute boys from the audience, Grant being one of them, and serenaded them with "Everything" by Michael Buble. He still didn't notice me! Grant and his buddies performed as well and called themselves "The Pizza Box Boys." Grant played his guitar and sang. I remember being very impressed with this boy haha. He could sing, dance, and play guitar?! Wow! What a ladies man!

This is actually our very first picture together at EFY! (I'm the one with the big, teased hair haha) He had no idea his future wife was right behind him ;)

Honestly, I kept running into Grant all the time at stake dances! I even danced with Grant's brother, Josh, before I met Grant. They were known as the "Boyd Brothers." Finally, at the New Year's stake dance of 2008, my friend and I were asked to pass out poppers for the countdown. We went up to Grant and offered him one. From what I remember, he was surrounded by a group of girls. My friend and I began talking to him and then, all of a sudden, a slow song came on. I remember this day as if it were yesterday...it is crystal clear in my mind. Out of all the girls, Grant asked me to dance! I was so flattered! Conversation was so smooth and I honestly felt like I had known him forever. We had so much in common, like neither of us had cell phones! haha. Then the song ended, and another slow song came on! It was perfect, he asked me to dance again! To make a long story short, I was twitter pated, which was so unusual because I was not boy crazy at all! He asked me for my phone number and email and we departed ways. If you want to laugh, feel free to read my journal entry from this day!

That's when our adventures began...We began emailing back and forth. (My mom was dying to know who this Grant Boyd was, so we even looked his address up and secretly went to his house to spy. haha) I looked forward to reading his emails and we did really well and acting cool and in the friend zone. He was my best friend, and I was his. He was someone that I loved being around.

A few days after my 16th birthday, he asked me on my first date, and my dad and brother pulled the shot gun out on him...

Then we went to Homecoming 2009 together Junior year...

Good thing we have lots of photos to remember how much fun our high school years were together. Grant and his buddies were always so fun and planned such creative dates, but really, we could be doing everything or nothing and it was always the best. Being together was easy. I felt like I could be myself around Grant. We always lifted each other and encouraged each other to be better. I loved that. He was so kind to everyone and he loved my family. He made me laugh hysterically all the time, that silly boy! We never steady dated, never kissed, never even held hands, even though we both knew that we liked each other.

The end of Senior year began approaching real quick. I was getting ready to go BYU-Idaho, Grant was preparing for his mission. Long story short, 3 days after graduation, we were each other's first kiss. In September of 2011, I left for BYU-Idaho and Grant received his mission call to the Nicaragua, Managua North mission. We separated and neither of us knew how things were going to turn out. Grant thought for sure that I was going to get hitched as soon as I got to Idaho. Well, he was wrong...After President Monson's announcement to change the age of missionaries, I turned my papers in and left on my mission in July 2013 to Uruguay, Montevideo mission. We wrote here and there for the year and a half that I was gone. I loved getting emails and letters from him. It seems like our whole relationship, since the very beginning, involved writing to one another...

We learned and grew so much from our missions. Grant was home 8 months before me and we continued to email. He says that it was the longest 8 months of his life. He really used that time to his advantage, though, by visiting my family.

I came home from my mission January 2, 2015. It was quite a whirlwind, because before I knew it, we were "official" and just two and a half weeks later, on January 20, Grant proposed at our special spot at the Gilbert, AZ temple!

We laugh now looking back because we realize that I was still in missionary mode but we both knew that it was right--actually for many years before, we knew and felt that it was right. Now it was the right time.

We were married 7 weeks later, 3 months after returning home from my mission, on March 14, 2015 in the Gilbert, Arizona temple. We love each other more than possible. Life couldn't be happier with my best friend by my side!
